John Berns brings more than two decades of coaching experience to Salvo Soccer Club, having worked with boys and girls across nearly every age group and competitive level. His broad coaching background spans youth recreational soccer through elite regional competition, giving him a deep understanding of player development at every stage of the pathway.

Over the past two seasons, Berns has primarily coached boys teams ranging from U9 through U17, guiding players competing in TCSL, ECNL Regional League, and US Youth Soccer National League competition. Throughout his coaching career, he has also led girls travel teams, futsal programs, boys and girls high school junior varsity teams, and junior high programs, developing players with diverse goals and abilities.

Berns is known for his player-centered coaching philosophy, emphasizing decision-making, game intelligence, and individual growth. He believes every player develops differently and strives to create an environment where athletes are empowered to solve problems, make confident decisions, and develop a deeper understanding of the game. While valuing every technical and tactical aspect of soccer, his coaching places particular emphasis on helping players recognize and execute the best decisions in dynamic game situations.

Berns holds a USSF National D License along with multiple U.S. Soccer Grassroots certifications, including 7v7, 9v9, 11v11, Goalkeeping, and Introduction to Grassroots Coaching. His extensive experience across age groups and competitive environments reflects a long-standing commitment to helping players reach their potential while fostering a positive, challenging, and enjoyable learning environment.
