Girls Director – Coaching Girls Academy – U16 & U17

Matthew Cross enters his new role as Girls Director at Salvo Soccer Club after serving the previous two years as the club’s Girls Academy Assistant Director, where he played a key role in supporting technical alignment, coach development, player progression, and overall program growth across the girls pathway.

Cross brings more than 13 years of coaching, leadership, and operational experience across youth, college, and pre-professional soccer. He has been a Girls Academy Head Coach with Salvo SC since 2019, helping lead one of the top girls environments in the region while mentoring players pursuing collegiate and high-level competitive pathways.

In addition to his club leadership responsibilities, Cross is entering his third season as an Assistant Coach with the Winona State University women’s soccer program after joining the staff in August 2024. His collegiate coaching background also includes three seasons at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, where he helped guide the program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances while developing multiple All-Americans.

Beyond the academy environment, Cross has served as General Manager for Salvo SC’s WPSL team since 2019, overseeing roster management, recruitment, operations, and program strategy. During his tenure, the club has established itself as one of the top WPSL programs nationally, including a National Final appearance in 2023 and earning the No. 1 national ranking during the 2024 season.

Prior to his current roles, Cross held leadership positions including Technical Director at Blaine Soccer Club and Sporting Director for FC Minnesota, building a reputation for high standards, strong player relationships, competitive team culture, and long-term player development.

Cross holds a USSF B License along with multiple advanced coaching diplomas through United Soccer Coaches, including Director of Coaching, 11v11, 7v7/9v9, and Futsal certifications.
